The only people that hate on it are contrarians and shitposters. I can admit that it running on the Gen 4 engine and not having the casino sucks, as well as too many Gen 4 evos hiding behind needing to get all 16 badges, but the fact you can even get some of them before the last gym is something FR and LG before it would never dream of doing. It has a ton of content, has Platinum's post game battle facilities, has a bunch of legendaries and small events, Pokemon variety, gym leader rematches, a safari zone that with enough autism gives you a lot of Pokemon, it's the best for a reason. Even the Pokemon following and auto run functions are simple but QoL features that only adds to the experience. It really feels like they took the original game and just kept throwing more and more content at it. I can really respect it. It's not truly perfect or anything, but it's a grand time.
