I feel Alakazam was one of the victims of the powercreep era. Just imagine it: back in the day, it was mandatory to have at least one Psychic, Poison, or Ghost Pokémon to have a powerhouse without much setbacks. Hell, Hypno was a good replacement, sacrifice a bit of power to make it tanky and resistant enough for normal challengers.
But when Fairy appeared, you can throw all those Psychic Pokémon to the garbage can. Fairy has more Sp Atk, and can knock down dragons without dying. Poison? The Sp Atk covers it, so they can counter it. Steel? Again, Sp Atk and fire moves.
Alakazam was king, but he sadly was killed by meta. Goodbye, spoony demon. Let's hope someday we'll meet again in better terms. And with ice cream, can't let those spoons go to waste.
