That’s long dead and gone, Pokemon adults have ruined that. Not just with the cards, but the cards are a big part of what made the franchise so successful. Being holographic doesn’t even mean anything anymore, since most of the ones printed within the last 15 years are practically bulk and have nothing special about them.
The lack of nostalgia from the cards is part of it. The toys suck, the anime spent way too long focusing on a single Mary Sue mega queer to have any kind of meaningful connection with that audience
