No one really understands WHY Pokemon games are so easy is the thing, they're easy so that you can karenfag your way to victory, and so that you can intentionally handicap yourself to make the game more challenging on your own.
Fittingly, it's incredibly difficult to make a genuinely good difficulty hack. Most romhacks end up going too far, focusing too much on difficulty to the point where they forget that they're supposed to be fun.
If you want a challenging Pokemon hack that's actually fun, Quarantine Crystal and Clover are both incredibly fun so long as you're alright with fakemon.
Sacred Gold and Storm Silver are also pretty decent for what they are, but I honestly just prefer to play the original HGSS

I burnt myself out of pokemon like a decade ago when I realized I hated the combat and gameplay loop, I thought the newer bells and whistles would help (and ironically they actually would if I had them all, being able to switch moves on the fly and nature mints would be such an insane QoL boost that I might actually tolerate the smogonfagging)
I played Blaze Black 2 years ago in an attempt to get me back into things, but it just wasn't clicking. Clover is on my list but after I finally put this bullshit down I think I'm going to step away from pokemon for another decade

It’s been awhile since I’ve played Nova Sun and I remember a few OP fights in the late game around the last Lusamine fight but generally didn’t mind the difficulty. At least compared to modern difficulty hacks which definitely go overboard

I genuinely can't tell if I'm in the late game yet
My mons are reaching 70 (I've been using rare candies to keep up because fuck grinding, yes I'm aware not EV training will bite me in the ass in the endgame) but I have the entire final island to explore
(This is also the first time I'm touching something post XY, so I don't know much about major fights or routes. I did look ahead for my girl Weavile and it's un fucking fair I can't get one until right before the League)

The people who say this are the same people who go "ackshually" when you use Meganium, Cinccino, a Rock type Pokemon that isn't Tyranitar, Dewgong, Poliwrath, and Zebstrika instead of Roserade, Lucario, Garchomp, Luxray (hypocritically enough), Staraptor, and Infernape.

This. Hell, it's why I enjoy the solo Pokemon more, you just choose something you like with some HM slaves and just try to run through the game. Only real issue is how it's usually better for earlier games in the franchise.

Being force to battle 10 trainers packed with 6 pokemon teams on a route for an hour isn't fun. I get why Gamefreak balanced the games the way they are, getting jumped and forced into long battle with a stall team is bad game design.

My point is that if you're going to play a hack/mod/whatever that says very clearly that it's difficult, then don't cry when it's actually difficult. Nothing's stopping you from looking up some gameplay on Youtube and deciding whether it looks fun or a frustrating waste of time.

Because all of these hacks can't actually modify the NPC AI, which has always been the strongest point of contention for Pokemon's low difficulty.
And the ones that do (typically found on GBA) are still exploitable in their own ways, it just means autists have to research the new flowchart to understand how to cheese them, because no matter how complex you make your AI, it's still AI, not an actual human player.
This romhack is trying to apply the common RPG logic of "the enemy gets to do things the player cannot" in order to generate higher difficulty but can't actually commit to it, so instead you have to deal with the logical extreme of constantly fighting overtuned NPCs using the maximum assets a player would have at their disposal, even for generic fodder turds.
Not that hacks that CAN do this do it well in the first place, most of them just boil down to taking away options from the player (see: Radical Reddit's Hardcore Mode being full of permanent effects you can't overwrite, as well as constantly stripping you of status moves while allowing the NPCs to keep theirs).

They're like puzzles you have to crack and they're very rewarding when you beat them, also they force you to train and use a variety of mons instead of a select 6 (i usually just use the debug feature in rejuv/reborn to skip the breeding, ev training and give myself Exp Candies for levelling up to save time and joint pain for something i'll achieve eventually anyway, same goes for useful Pickup ability items like PP Ups when the level cap is 80+)

Needs a difficulty option bad where you get to choose from "campaignshitter", "smogonfag" and "VGCuck"

randomzied IVs are shit in general but forcing people to contend with them while also having to use an unfamiliar dex is just stupid
gotta love being duped into using a shitmon well past its prime just because its IVs were good for long enough to invoke a sunk cost, while accidentally being convinced that an actually good mon is shit because RNG decided it needs bad IVs to wreck its performance
