Pokémon are basically Japanese myths, legends, yokai and deities given life and form in a universe that treats them as real living creatures. Anything presented in the games directly informs the player about the world and universe, from the perspective of someone actually IN the universe. And the yokai that directly inspired Froslass has tales told about the exact scenario presented in L: A (eg a Yuki-Onna meets a man in a blizzard, then takes human form to marry him, leaving him when he speaks of the demon he met in the snow, with versions telling of the man's life being spared as the Yuki-Onna would not kill the father of her children). That Snorunt is ALSO inspired directly by the "child" the Yuki-Onna is said to sometimes carry and it all just ends up being one big pokémon flavoured story of that particular Yuki-Onna tale, reinforced by both the Snorunt and Froslass being uncatchable, as they consider themselves "owned" by another person, who's diary they held onto long past sense or reason, given the state of decay of the ruins.
