The next Pokémon game won't be Wind and Waves, GameFreak are going weirder than that.
On Pokémon Day 2026, they'll show a full trailer during the Pokémon Direct showing about 6 ~ 7 minutes of footage, but also discussing some of the "history" of the region (which is based loosely on Indonesia/South East Asian islands) and myths/legends about the region (which it looks like will tie into the villainous character, who is also teased.)
There will be four (4) games revealed: Pokémon Wind, Pokémon Ocean, Pokémon Cyber, and Pokémon Earth.
They're all set in the same region, but the place where you start will be a different island (same set of 3 starter Pokémon, which won't be shown on Pokémon Day, but will be teased right at the end of the Direct/broadcast) depending on the game.
The reason for four "separate" games seems to be that GameFreak want this to be more of a collaborative game, ie. you play online with three friends at the same time and explore together (more fleshed out version of Scarlet and Violet), and this is their big "surprise" for the 30th anniversary of Pokémon. There are a lot of individual islands to explore, some are inhabited with humans but others aren't.
There will be voice acting in cutscenes, but there won't be voice acting outside of cutscenes (apart from short "ow!" if someone falls off a rock or something).
Ride Pokémon seem to return.
You can terraform some islands in the game (but not to the same extent as Pokopia) but not the main islands with cities on them. Seems more like a side feature than a core gameplay mechanic like Secret Bases were. Can terraform with friends online and share islands. Different island configurations mean different Pokémon will show up, depending on habitat needs, type, etc.
Player character is a very generic Pokémon player character (eg. kid) but seems like there's some light character customisation available.
