Why would I not carry counterplay against weather that I know will be a problem? VGC is a place where fishing for OHKOs with Sheer Cold is a valid strategy, so being able to counterplay snow so I can KO those teams before they land their OHKOs would be of great use to me.

Yeah, but setting up weather is generally a Turn 0 or Turn 1 thing, it's an important tone setter for the match ahead, just like Terrains, Trick Room, Aurora Veil, etc. so I'm naturally going to lead with Pokemon who can immediately respond to or otherwise predict and shutdown attempts to start up weather.

Yup, and then every time a counter was proposed, a logical counter someone would have in VGC because the entire point of teambuilding in VGC is that you either go all-in on a gambler's strategy (Sheer Cold Team) or something that can cover as many bases as possible to mitigate probability of loss from unfortunate RNG while still being strong enough to give a fighting chance to just about any team you'll see in VGC, you went "nuh uh, that's not how it works".

Correct, the argument is that Scovillain takes more setup effort than most Megas, which puts it at greater risk of being disrupted and subsequently KO'd, and assuming Megas are one-per-battle in Champions, just like how we're assuming Mega Scovillain will have Chlorophyll for its ability, that means you just wasted your one-per-battle Mega and are now at a severe disadvantage against your opponent.

It's almost like the inherent knowledge of
>oh, the opponent is running Scovillain and Torkoal! it's probably the Mega they want to use, I should expect Sun to be set up within the first three turns... I'll focus on general utility setup and opening offense rather than immediately jumping into setting up my own weather, and then the next turn, I'll try and land some strong blows on any switches/pivots. And then on the turn after THAT, I'll switch to see if my prediction of weather counterplay is correct so Scovillain can't benefit from Chlorophyll, leaving it a sitting duck that has to spend extra turns bailing itself out and trying to set up sun again.
Is something I can use to my advantage, allowing me to defy this Mega Scovillain strategy and gain the upper hand if I correctly predict the long game without thinking it'll take TOO long to get to that point, because VGC Doubles is a very fast and loose format where battles end as quickly as they begin due to only being allowed four Pokemon, four Pokemon who can be KO'd very quickly because they have to survive getting battered by one or two opponents at any given time.

Despite being the first Fire type with Chlorophyll, and one that got STAB Grass moves to beat Water types with, it ended up being ass anyways?
