Holactie and the Spell/Trap cards absolutely carried Yugi’s monsters. Even without Solgaleo there was nothing in Yugi’s deck that Ash’s Pokemon couldn’t negdiff besides the Egyptian Gods and even they could conceivably be overcome by the combined power of Ash’s higher end Pokemon.
Pikachu, Lucario and Infernape in particular must have been sick that day because none of them were even close to their usual power output in the fight.
I genuinely feel like that extremely questionable Dark Hole Dragon and Glow Neos scaling was purely brought up because they knew they had to come up with something to balance out the scaling otherwise YuGiOh fans would lose their shit if they said “yeah Ash beats literally everything but Holactie”.
But yeah Holactie overpowers everything Ash has and the spell/trap cards ensured Ash couldn’t circumvent her and that’s why Yugi was always going to win.
Now this all goes out the window if we were talking about any other YGO protagonist. Post-DM era monsters are absurd and would crush Ash, nodiff.
