I have been thinking for a LONG time about what's my favorite Pokemon game of all time, and I have reached the conclusion that it is USUM. I'm not claiming that USUM is the BEST Pokemon game (although it's definitely one of the best for sure) but what I'm saying is that it's my personal favorite. The main reason for that, is the fact that USUM has a lot of content (like the older games Emerald, Platinum, BW2, HGSS), but at the same time, USUM has all the modern QoL features that those older games lack. Stuff like Bottle Caps, EV modification, etc. And of course, USUM also has Mega Evolution, which is the best battle gimmick imo. So I'm making this thread to ask, is there anyone else here who feels the same way about USUM? This is also an invitation for you guys to share what's your favorite Pokemon game, and why?

Sucks how kids born after red and blue have to cope and try to choose a different favorite

Probably the best game of the post-Fairy era. That isn't hard with mediocre games like XY, actual garbage like SS and BDSP, and borderline experimental shit like the Legends games or SV. Being a Pokemon game that attempted to make the campaign interesting and attempted to have a post-game is something not even some older Pokemon games do both of, and as such probably beats out most first versions that aren't BW (only narrowly beating out GS on the virtue of GS having such a great remake it's only worth replaying for aesthetic reasons). The bar is unfortunately on the floor but at least it clears it even if it's not Bill Gates jumping over a chair from standing height, at least it's not XY tripping over it or SS stepping on the wrong part revealing it's actually a rake and getting hit in the fucking face.

>>58759551 >How much does USUM improve upon SM? A lot. USUM has all the content from SM, and then adds all of these things on top:
>Rainbow Rocket postgame Episode >Battle Agency >Alola Photo Club >Mantine Surf >Ultra Warp Ride >Kantonian Gym >Many new areas >Expanded old locations >Improved Totem Battles >Etc. Anonymous

>>58760522 Yes, that's true! I think USUM has 100+ side quests, that were not in SM.
Honestly, it's unbelievable how some people still claim SM is better than USUM, just because they prefer SM's plot.

Gen 7 is my one blindspot, and I want to play both games before gen 10. I played a bit of SM but I never touched USUM. I know a big complaint about USUM is how it fucks with the story's conclusion, so I've been iffy about skipping the originals. Would it ruin the experience to play Ultra first? Since it's the overall better game, and one that's completely new to me, I feel like it's more likely to hook me and make me fall in love with Alola. I want to play and appreciate these games without it feeling like required reading

>>58759228 Everything you said is wrong. USUM has some added features but the main game plays better and is more much logical in SM. USUM feels like a disjointed mess. Emerald adds a lot of features but RS play just fine without them. Platinum plays exactly the same as DP in the main game apart from saving speed. The whole mindset Pokemon players have about about third versions making previous versions obsolete is dead wrong. If you only want to play one, sure go for the third version but if you play the games multiple times like some players do you'll see how little the third versions add. Their main appeal is new features and post-game stuff.
