Yeah Captain Duhpants, of COURSE they seem "magical". But that's more in the "beautiful or delightful in a way that seems removed from everyday life" sense, rather than the "relating to magic" sense, given the basis for all pokémon powers are elemental energies, just as all humans' energy comes from the solar sun charging the shit we eat with ITS energy. the physics of their world operates differently to ours, but that doesn't mean they're practicing magic in their universe. Except Meow, she's a performance magician.

Because it was bipedal and edgy as fuck. It also wasn't a grass starter, thus innately more useful in a game playthrough than any grass starter to that point or beyond up to Meow. We're not talking about water frogs, we're talking specifically about the world's reception and reaction to grass starters since the series first launched in general, with a focus on why Meow succeeded while everything before her (a majority plethora of reptiles and dinosaur-related creations) failed abjectly.
Almost as if the world's keyed to avoid and reject such things, due to our deep-seated animal instincts which cause us to avoid such things before we fully became the humans we have today.

Changing the main type triangle from Fire/Water/Electric to Fire/Water/Grass was the franchise's biggest mistake. The third starter line should have been the Gorochu line while the Venusaur line should've stayed as the generic grass line for Erika and the midgame routes.
The space taken up by the Vileplume and Victreebel lines, who were made to replace the Venusaur line after it got promoted to starter and thus became unavailable in the wild, could've gone towards other Pokemon more deserving to be in the original 151 (Kotora)

It's not actually "magic". As noted in the Pokedex and shown in the anime, its flower isn't actually floating, the stem is just camouflaged so as to appear invisible.
