It's interesting how one of the most marketable aspects of this franchise (the possibility of selling you the same plush or any other product twice) is so carelessly managed, 80% of the time leading to a dogshit result.
In a way it's charming that even now that the franchise is as commercial and streamlined as it's ever been, we're still getting vomit shinies.

this Horsea was my first ever nonscripted shiny by fishing in Fire Red's Seafoam Islands.
I had no idea shinies existed outside the red gyarados so the star animation caught me very off guard. I thought I found a secret god or something. Spent a good few minutes lobbing ultra balls, afraid to lower its health at all but I caught it :)

The most marketable aspect of shinies was their rarity, the more they reduce their rarity the less appealing they become. We have come to a point where shinies are worthless. Whenever they intentionally try to make "cool" shinies for their shillmons is always generic "lets make them black" or "lets make them white". It's better to at least retain the strangeness and uniqueness of shinies.

Such nice shiny options and then GF puts an ugly shade of their worst purple+yellow or purple+swamp green or yellow+red or pale blue or swamp green + cream or beige or a pale brick red shiny. Almost every golden yellow effort failed miserably too.
Water type shinies often become purple and normal types get awful swamp green details. If you are from Gen 1 up to Gen 4 you also have higher chances to get a majority of shit tier shinies in the dex, even Lucario got a shit tier shiny.
