open world is kino with pokemon games. being able to just explore around and catch some mons, level them up and fix their stats it good enough for me. i live for that. then you have retro pokemon games where you're forced to read some toddler tier dialogue for 10 minutes before they let you walk over 2 squares of grass and then stop you again for more dialogue.

Story is kino as fuck. Played through it 3 times.
Also I've started to like the open world format, at least for catching mons. You have so many team building options and it's easy to find new mons, it's honestly pretty fun.

Pokemon has never been inspired, anon. The truth is the games have always been bad. What makes it fun is collecting and bonding with your imaginary friends. Scarlet and violet are the best we've ever had for that. Getting a living dex of shinies is an obtainable goal now, and that will give you months of entertainment alone. The online battles are pretty great, too.

Only massive autists keep playing the older games forever on repeat. Not having all the modern QoL changes is a deal breaker now. Fuck I started playing this franchise with Blue and playing anything older than the 3DS games is a pain in the fucking ass for a multitude of reasons.

Only if they play them vanilla. There are decades of mods to play through, and even simple randomizer settings can add a ton of longevity. Toss in some self-imposed challenges and you have a series of near infinite replayability
