They don't have to care what's too strong, they can just nerf it into the ground the next gen to shill their new mon. Smogon, by nature of them taking the games holistically, will have more bans because the mons will be less balanced on average now. Also, they chickened out of touching tera even though that shit is busted as all hell and they're paying the price for it.
Plus, it will take exponentially longer to find what works best and what counters what as you add more mons.
