Cresselia could have been relevant to the plot somewhat if it was one of the rogue megas, at the very least it would have been another hint that Darkrai was involved.

It's rare, but it happens, usually when GameFreak finds out "oh fuck this is too overcentralizing in VGC or on-cart PVP but it's not a DLC Pokemon.". Aegislash got hit, Zacian (and for parity, Zamazenta too) got hit, the Treasures of Ruin got hit.

Cresselia was always great in VGC, but in an era where more and more ridiculously strong monstrosities are being released we need defensive bulwarks to help deal with them.
Nerfing one of the most important ones (who doesn’t even have a good defensive type and relied on Tera a lot) isn’t a good idea in my eyes
