the main combat gimmick is called yoctocasting or y-casting, it’s based around the different weather conditions. there’s a sunny, rainy, windy, snowy, and sandy form that boost your best defense stat and make you offensively gain fire, water, flying, ice, or rock type advantages. the tool you use for casting has a mode for each weather and it applies to your whole team, which means if it’s set to rainy mode your whole team can only do rainy y-casting. only one of your pokemon can y-cast per battle, and it will remain active for as long as the weather is active; if the weather stops or changes for any reason, you cannot y-cast again even if your weather type is summoned again.

there are no unique y-cast forms or variations and it’s available for all pokemon. mega evolution returns in a post-game storyline, with the attached image being the pokemon to receive new ones. typhlosion, serperior, samurott, zarude, and pecharunt are not obtainable through normal gameplay. typhlosion gains dark, serperior gains psychic, zebstrika gains fire, and vanilluxe gains fairy.
