Only the original Ranger lets you get the egg without a Wi-Fi event. You'd need to access a fan server to get it in the sequels.
It technically doesn't *need* to be an unused copy of the game since the egg is just a flag. You can restore it with a save editor like Checkpoint on the 3DS.
There's also an alternate way to hunt this without trading or starting new files. Set up ACE in DP (look it up, way too complicated to explain) to reroll your TID and SID.
Whether or not any of this is considered cheating is entirely up to you. This shiny isn't even supposed to exist, after all.
