The starters and legends all received major buffs, to the point that the legends became known as the strongest and most centralizing pokemon in the competitive scenes- both in Smogon and in VGC. Characters were all given updated designs and the story was reframed. Even during the “pandering to smartphone kiddies” era that upset Hoennfags at the time, it was clear that there was some vision for Hoenn on their part.
Sinnoh’s prequel did fuckall with the settings people liked from Sinnoh, and pandered more to Unova, with Dialga and Palkia getting ugly horse forms that amounted to less of a stat/playstyle change than Giratina’s did nearly 15 years prior. The remake was outsourced to nothing-for devs because Gamefreak clearly didn’t want to make any more remakeshit. Sinnohfags are having to contend with the fact that their pandering is going to center around Lucario/Garchomp (mostly Cynthia)/Rotom, and not much else.
