The Pokémon has to be holding their Mega Stone, if so then if the Pokémon makes the audience meter fill up then they Mega Evolve and then use a Spectacular Talent, it does a lot of hearts of Appeal on that turn. Of course choosing to have a Mega means going without the Pokémon having the relevant Scarf for that Category as their Held Item as they'll need to hold their Mega Stone instead. So you have to think, if you want to be able to Mega or have the boost from the Scarf.
