There’s really an argument over the canon starters for the first gen? Their names are literally Red, Blue and Green. It’s the only time where the protagonists are named after the starters. Of course there’s still art of them with different ones, but that’s the case with all of the protagonists because you can choose who gets what in your own playthrough.
