Obviously, it's BS, but the joke would be seeing characters discussing this seriously.
Similarly, in real life, there have been debates about various fossil species that have been shown to be mere composites of different animals, juveniles, or simply misidentified remains. The joke could continue with the entire Spinosaurus debate.
