Is the ZA speed nerf the best thing that has happened to competitive Pokemon? So many underutilized mons now have a chance to shine because they're no longer held back by this Hitlerian stat.

It reduces the number of ev spreads greatly.
Now everyone dumps them in bulk and attack/spatk, the 2nd order effect is there's few mons that can actually 1hko anything so the meta centers around mons who can. Having speed tied to movement and cooldown would be preferable.
ZA is not a serious game and not worth analyzing too hard.

Anyone who's played the game knows cooldowns barely matter except for select mons. And even then you don't have to invest much in speed because the fastest they can get is 3 seconds.

I think there are fewer viable mons because there are straight up fewer roles for them to play. ZA is very shallow.

No, we just now have a different set of viable ‘mons instead. The entire meta is almost entirely centered around garchomp and garchomp alone, and using electric types of any kind is an outright death sentence

The Z-A battle system is just bad implementation of your typical MMORPG/MOBA battle system.
It's... serviceable but uninspired. It's lmost boring how "real time battles" in Pokemon are just that.
Is it better? Maybe, technically. But I prefer the old system.

We already know it's gonna go to Champions, WW has Arceus' system and the next Legends has real time like Z-A but with troops ala Pikmin. Standard turns are gone except in your official showdown nobody will actually play

My Baxcalibur eats Garchomp for breakfast. Glaceon is also a thing. And earthquake isn't as dangerous when you learn to keep distances, plus the bigger the range the bigger your hitbox, those alpha Garchomp are massive targets.

Speed was probably too important and made a lot of Pokemon unviable if they were in that awkward speed tier that is too slow but also too fast for TR strats. I still prefer Speed being king because it at least makes EV spreads more interesting than just 252 HP 252 Attack/SpAttack Adamant/Modest nature on every single pokemon.

How? You're either maximizing speed or HP, ZA is just a sidegrade at best in terms of stat spread freedom.
My biggest disappointment with ZA's system is that mixed attacking is even less viable now because everything is running more bulk.

i can tell from your post that youre a singles player. outside of the fanfic meta i can think of very few otherwise good mons held back by speed. at most it just requires some positioning, but then youre likely rewarded with an attacker thats stronger or bulkier than usual
