I'm still upset MissingNo wasn't codified into Pokémon history as the 1000th Pokemon. Would have been leagues better than the "we made so much money off of you gullible twats" self congratulations that we got.

As iconic as Missingno. became, GF would never outright acknowledge it because it would also mean acknowledging their games' coding being exploited to hell and back, and we can't have that for such a prestigious franchise, can we?

The original Missingno glitch wasn't even present in the japanese games so for Game Freak and japan Missingno is just some random bug in some overseas version of the game, they hardly ever knew or cared about it.

This isn't true. Missingno. is in the JP games. Its name is "けつばん" (Ketsuban) which translates to "Missing Number"

Missingno is, but the Old Man Glitch that everyone used to encounter Missingno back in the day, does not work in the japanese versions.

They acknowledged the DPP void room glitch in ZA and that one is a lot more obscure than Missingno

Yeah but that was way after the gen 1 hayday. Point is the way 99% of people came across Missingno, was never a thing in japan. Surely even there were people who knew of it with cheating devices or other glitches, but nothing as simple as the cinnabar coastline that made it an iconic bug and easy for anyone to replicate and verify here.

けつばんは、裏技によるポケモン変更でNo.151ミュウを狙った時などに出現することがある。本来表示されるはずの無いポケモンではあるが、ポケモン図鑑にはNo.152として登録される。そのため、金・銀発売までは「152番目のポケモン」などと言われ、一躍有名になった。なお、現在正規の152番はチコリータにあてがわれている。
