Even if you want to handwave it as being its tip to tail length it is massive for a mon I imagine being the size of a small dog at most.

Pokemon sizes and weights are just silly in general. Like the fact that the heaviest pokemon is still weighs less than the lightest elephant, or Wailord being only about half the size of a real whale.

Yeah I remember seeing Torterra's sprite in Gen IV and thinking this thing was huge. Big enough to sit on and ride on, etc. Plus it mentions how some small Pokemon will even build nests on its back and live there. I also thought it was much more w i d e than it is in 3D. I know a lot of people point to Nidoking as one of those Pokemon that suffered in the transition from 2D to 3D, but IMO Torterra is right up there with it.

Yeah as a kid I imagined Nidoking and Nidoqueen being massive, until I noticed the heights. Was a bummer to realize how little they are. Actually same thing with Kanto starters as well, Blastoise is a manlet, Charizard as well.

Tyranitar ended up being smaller than I initially thought as well.

Some of Torterra's Pokédex entries mention some Pokémon being born and spending their entire lives on its back, and it's classified as the Continent Pokémon. Which makes you think it's going to be absolutely gigantic. Like big enough to make Eternatus, Rayqauza and Wailord look tiny. But to be that fair, that size wouldn't really work in a game about collecting and battling lots of mons.
