I dont hate H-Voltorb or anything (aside from the stupid lore shit but who cares), but it generally looks worse imo.
The Voltorb line was a cute in-universe twist on a mimic, given a little bit of lore as a tsukomogami, but not anything that was meant to be super duper serious. Its a gag mon that looks like a pokeball (and only logically could be mistaken for one from the perspective of a 2D game), but it just fucking explodes constantly.
As such, the original design is appropriately simple and silly. Just a pair of gnards, one pissed off, one smug.
HVoltorb/Electrode are more detailed, made to look like they were carved, but they lose a lot of that simpler charm in the process. Their color schemes, while logical, are also way worse.
