The gender split in the games, that's just an archaic leftover from ages ago when they wanted it to be harder to breed starters without Ditto, incentivizing trading.Hell, some Pokemon are so "female/male 'coded'" that one of the animators forgot what they were doing and pretty much gave this Delphox tits multiple times in the episode.
The more time passes, the more it's clear the starter gender split needs to be set to 50/50, or changed to be different per starter.
