So, in gens 6 and 7, what are all the mechanics, tips and tricks for breeding penta and hexa perfects, from the start of before catching the base Pokemon to use for breeding? As in, what poke powers are useful for capturing more useful breeding fodder, better ways to use those powers, held items that are useful in any step of the process and so on? I remember some bits and used to do a fuckton of breeding stuff back a decade ago, but I've barely touched the series since and want to get back into it, but there's inevitably going to be useful things I've forgotten about and tips I won't get from just reading a wiki entry and trying to jog my memory. Also how far away from the egg guy do you have to be in 6th gen before he turns around when there's an egg? I remember 7th gen it happens even if you're right next to them, I don't think that happens in 6th.

Anyone? I'm forgetting how to more or less get any hexa perfect I want as long as I have an appropriate Ditto, I'm certain I used to be able to do it but I don't remember the specifics.

>>58870972 >>58871992 Disclaimer: I didn't do much breeding in Gen VII but most of the mechanics from Gen VI carried forward as far as I'm aware.
>If you don't have a 6IV Ditto, you need to get a base Pokemon >This can be tedious, but each game has ways of guaranteeing a minimum of 2 perfect IVs on Pokemon you can catch >XY is the worst, as the only real way to do this is via friend safari and with the servers down you're stuck with what you already have on our system >ORAS lets you ge up to 3 perfect IVs with higher DexNav chains, also nets you Egg Moves and Hidden Abilities >SuMo I think SOS battles get you 2+ Perfect IVs at higher chains but never did it myself so IDK. Maybe the wormholes have higher IVs as well? >What you do is you catch enough high-IV Pokemon until you have all six stats at 31 across all your Pokemon. For this example we'll use Bidoof, so you'd have a minimum of 3 Bidoofs, one with 31 IVs in HP+Atk, one with Def+Sp.A, one with Sp.D+Spe >Using Destiny Knot you guarantee that the egg hatches with 5 of it's IVs passed down from its parents >This is really important and forms the basis of IV breeding in these Gens >So let's say you get luck and hatch a Bidoof from the HP+Atk parent and the Def+Sp.A parent and land a baby with 31 IVs in HP+Atk+Def+Sp.A >You would then breed it with the Sp.D+Spe Bidoof until you got a penta or hexa baby >Because Destiny Knot only passes 5 IVs it's basically impossible to guarantee 6IV eggs >Even with two 6IV parents it's only a 1 in 32 chance of a 6IV baby, because Destiny Knot will pull 5 31IV stats from the parent then the 6th IV is randomly rolled from 0-31 >This is why most people settle for penta-perfect >I would recommend aiming for a 6IV male Bidoof as one of your first goals, as it ban breed and pass on its IVs to both the Field and Water 1 Egg groups, the two largest groups in the game >Alternatively, Spheal is available on DexNav in ORAS and Wooper in the XY Friend Safari and both are in Field + Water 1 1/2

>>58872272 Hatching Eggs
>Get a Pokemon with Flame Body or Magma Armor to halve the amount of steps to hatch an egg. Volcarona and Talonflame are popular choices because they can learn Fly although this is not a requirement in ORAS or Gen VII >Each game has a long strip of land for hatching eggs right next to the day care >If you're collecting eggs in bulk, like for example, shiny hunting, the ORAS Battle Resort and XY Lumiose City both have areas you can continually ride your bike without making any additional directional inputs. I'm not sure about Gen VII >Use O-Powers or the Gen VII equivalent (Roto powers maybe?) to further speed up hatching - this stacks with Flame Body/Magma Armor Natures:
>Use Synchronize to find Natures you want - wild encounters have a 50% chance of having the same Nature as the Synchronize Pokemon >I prefer Espeon/Umbreon as they don't have a second Ability however the friendship evolution can be a pain in the ass if you don't have a way to up friendship quickly >Everstone on a breeding parent guarantees passing down that parent's Nature. Typically, you'll have one parent with Destiny Knot and one with Everstone for 99% of your breeding Misc:
Use the IV judge to see how many 31 IVs you have (Kiloude City in XY, Battle Resort in ORAS and Battle Tree SuMo although you have to unlock his Judge ability I think by hatching eggs)
>Egg Moves can be passed down from male or female parents >The female parent's ability is more likely to be passed down >When breeding for Hidden Abilities, the female needs the Hidden Ability other it won't get passed down, unless you're breeding a Male Hidden Ability with a Ditto (This makes breeding for Hidden Ability Starter Pokemon a nightmare due to their gender ratio) >Useful resource to see what your odds of certain IV combos (also works with shiny hunting and Hidden Abilities) Can't post link but Google Destiny Knot Breeding Calculator and it's the first result Anonymous
I hope my schizo ramblings made sense, I types it all off the cuff from memory. Here's the breeding calc I use, 4chan won't let me post the link

>>58872346 Not that anon, but it made sense to me. Here are my takes to add.
>For a Field/Water 1 substitute for IV passing, Psyduck would be the best choice in both gens, but Bidoof also works for XY. Spheal would've also been good for ORAS if not for the fact that it's terrible to DexNav chain in caves. >In XY, an alternative to the Friend Safari is catching a baby Pokémon, who have 3 guaranteed IVs, and evolving it. Azurill is best for chain breeding that Field/Water 1 IV passer if it too must be chain bred. >Since Talonflame and Volcarona can be rather difficult to obtain in ORAS, Slugma can be used instead for hatching. >Oval Charm and the Hatching Power O-Power (Gen 6) or Roto Hatch (USUM) helps speed up the process by reducing a lot of the tedium from egg generation chances and walking. >For Gen 7, use Poké Pelago's Isle Avue to hatch eggs if you don't need them hatched ASAP. Have the isle maxed out at phase 3 to hatch up to 18 eggs at a time with 1 egg cycle deducted every hour. >When finding female Pokémon to pass down species, Hidden Abilities, and Poké Balls, use a male with Cute Charm. Sylveon is ideal for the 87.5% male ratio and lack of second regular ability. >Making Poké Balls a genetic trait that can be passed down is stupid and we should've been able to change the Poké Balls we put our Pokémon in at the Poké Ball Boutique. Breed Route Routine
>XY - Go back and forth Route 7 and Camphrier Town, picking up eggs when the NPC faces the road. Loop around Prism Tower in Lumiose City's Centrico Plaza to hatch eggs. >ORAS - Loop around the Battle Resort, picking up eggs when the NPC faces the road. Keep running the loop to hatch eggs. >Alola - Run around in the stable in front of the nursery, picking up eggs when the NPC folds her arms. I'm sure that also works for hatching eggs since I used Poké Pelago instead so I can do something else with my life instead of playing Tauros Rodeo Simulator while the eggs incubate.
