>>58874773Mixed bag, like every Pokemon game. The battle system is surprisingly well thought out and a really cool evolution for the franchise, but the game is a step back in pretty much every other area. The bigger focus on battling made it so that the catching mechanics are severely downgraded to the point where I wonder why they felt like they had to include the Arceus-style mechanics if they only include like half and remove several of them. Ends up feeling much more underbaked than it ever was in Arceus.
Setting the game entirely within Lumiose didn't have to be a problem if they made the city highly detailed and varied, but it is a big bland city where everything looks the same and there is barely anything to do. Nothing but samey looking cardboard facades.
That being said, I do think everything the Legends series has been doing so far is the direction the main series should go in. If they can just combine the good parts of both Arceus and Z-A we'd have easily the best games in the series, but I hate how GameFreak's monkey paw means that whenever they do good in one regard, they have to fuck up some other part.
