I got back into the series thanks to the Switch. My first return title was Sword, which was a poor impression in terms of gameplay and Pokemon-design, though the music and DLCs were alright. I tried again with Violet, and honestly? It was a buggy piece of shit, but I had so much fun, and the character and story writing actually impressed me. I have no idea if it’s because my bar has been set so low by the single digit framerates i experienced whenever I entered a city, but nonetheless, Gen 9’s writing and gameplay (SV + ZA) were satisfying for me.
If I were you, I’d buy a Switch 2, get either Scarlet or Violet used, then get ZA later used.
