It's still a mechanic that involves RPG dice rolls which is beyond based, but it also has that kinesthetic quality of the player character being moved around and made to throw the ball in the direction the player aims at with a dedicated button, instead of it being just a clinical menu choice. If the current Pokemon games were being developed with as much attention to autistic simulationist detail as, say, back in the days of gen 3, we could expect the next games to make it even more in-depth such as with different Pokemon having different reactions to balls being thrown at them, like aiming at specific body parts increasing catching odds or something. (But we don't live in that world, so I don't know what to really expect.)
