>>58887304>Was Pokemania really as amazing as the boomers make it out to be?I think people generally discuss it in terms of its overall impact, not necessarily it being good or not. That said, when what feels like the entire world is all simultaneously in on something at the same time, it's pretty cool.
Pokemon was this fresh, new thing, where the bounds of it were still unknown, even to the devs. Since literally every kid was into Pokemon, you got that very literal emulation of running into random trainers, having link battles, card battles, trading, etc.. You'd meet kids, fuck around with Pokemon, then never see em again. Was pretty cool.
>What's so special about gen 1?Gen 1 set the foundation for everything to come. All that you appreciate about Platinum wouldn't have been possible without it.
It's been bested in some ways since, but the idea of having a JRPG monster collector that had interconnectivity with trading and battling was highly novel at the time.
>I feel like I missed out on the golden age of Pokemon but I don't really know.Everyone has their own definition of a golden age. You missed out on a unique experience, but that's inevitable with the nature of age. You did have the benefit of coming into an established franchise.
