>>58898874That's a VERY disingenuous summation of the thing, given Game Freak magazine existed due to Tajiri and Sugimori's shared love of video games, Tajiri stated pokémon came from seeing the game link cable and envisioning a bug crawling along it and trading in that came originally from the NES day where he and Sugi were playing the same title, but Sugi had 2 copies of a powerful weapon and Tajiri couldn't get his RNG to drop it for him, deciding it would be really good if they were able to trade dupe items between game copies. Minky may have inspired Tajiri and Sugi to attempt to contract shudo for the anime, but it had no part in the genesis of Pokémon. that was all Tajiri and his direction of what he wanted to see Sugimori create. And as we all know, it originally started off as something utterly alien to what Pokémon became much less what they were looking to do by the time shudo got hired (Gen 2 was initially slated for '97, remember?).
