A simple example: the main Mario games are made for casual players, while the Mario Maker series was created for those seeking a greater challenge. Currently, many fans have created their own versions of Pokémon using FRLG and RS as a base. TPC could have used this concept and created an RPG Maker game with a retro style, giving the franchise a fresh approach.
