if we have to turn pokemon from "shonen battle setting" to "actual functioning world"
you gotta limit the powerscaling, HARD
just assume every protag in the mango and show and games is a prodigy; anything else falls to madness
like look at the Conferences in the shows, they were specified to range around 256~ entries, every year, and the only requirement is 8 badges
that means only about 256 people get 8 badges PER YEAR, and thats including regulars who run the circuit year after year
assuming every child goes on a Journey at least once, which I think is accurate because WHY ELSE WOULD THE WHOLE SYSTEM EXIST? you're looking at 3-4% of the population going into the circuit, every year, year after year, and they've got it tuned so only about 256 make it to all 8 badges?
the attrition rate is gonna be hilarious
so lets take Kanto, we know its based on the area around Tokyo, Chiba, Ibaraki, Kanagawa, Saitama, Yamanashi, and half of Shizuoka. IRL thats 42.4 million people
even if we assume theres only a quarter the population cause the Pokemon world looks less settled, so 10.6 million people, 4% is still 320000 to 425000 kids going on a Pokemon Journey for the first time, PER YEAR
256 make it to 8 badges, and thats counting recurring participants
they ain't gonna make it boss, its less than 0.1% per year that get 8 badges, more like 0.05% to 0.02% counting people taking multiple cracks at the circuit
