I never could get my head around the idea Mewtwo is an artificially man-made psychic cat mutant. Especially the ears. They were just horns to me.
I can't explain how nostalgic this thread feels to the boomer I am. I come from a time Mewtwo was so hype I have an anecdote about this.
Mewtwo literally was what you call today the GOAT. You could catch many pikachus, you could catch some legendary birds, they were unique but they were three, Mew was mythical (in the sense most people didn't have it) but Mewtwo was accessible and the strongest. The first movie was about Mewtwo (and Mew). The short film explaining his birth is now classic. The movie is filled with adult-tone questions, probably the most mature/dark arc of the whole franchise, questioning the morality of the bond between humans and pokémons.
But my anecdote isn't about this.
>be me
>young
>one of the poor friends
>we would go at other friends' house to play games because we didn't have a house, we didn't have the new consoles etc.
>went to my also poor friend's place
>surprise
>one of our rich friends was already there
>he wasn't really rich to be honest but his parents bought him all the new consoles which was rather unusual among people of our class.
>"Hey anon! Look! [Redacted] is already here! He took his Gamecube™ ! We're playing THE NEW SUPER SMASH BROS.!"
>omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg
>holy fuck, Smash bros. literally was my favorite game. I played the 64 one, and loved it. The only one you could have fun while playing characters of your favorite franchises, Mario, Yoshi, Pikachu, Link etc.
>and this is the new one? omg what crazy novelties will it bring to us?
>the genre was so new, it was so hype, everything had to be built.
>I'm so excited
>can't wait to have the fun of my life
>only two controllers and we're 3
>bah! nevermind, we'll pass them around.
>They're doing some strange things on the screen, although.
>"What are you doing?
