A youtuber managed to modify the Aurora Ticket distribution rom to distribute other items (and other things such as the Wish Eggs). You do need a GBA emulator that supports the Wireless Adapter, though. No clue how many good ones support it. I couldn't get it to work, so I basically said fuck it and injected the events with PKHeX.
The same person also did a similar distribution hack with the Mew distribution cart, replacing it with other event Pokemon, including the 10th Anniversary Celebi.

It's not unusual for Kantomons have kinda scuffed sprites in RS that then get improved upon in FRLG (before their RS sprites get reused in Emerald for some reason anyways) but in Gengar it feels like the reverse happened, which is weird because you can't even acquire a Gengar in RSE.

I don't like grouping the Ruby/Sapphire and Emerald sprites together because even if you don't count the animations, there's a few different ones.
The ones I know about are Wartortle, Caterpie, Lickitung, Mr. Mime, Jynx and Snorlax. There's probably a few more but I couldn't find any comprehensive lists of differences or even just dumps of every Pokémon's GBA sprites side-by-side.

Managed to catch Shiny Absol via RNG Manip in ruby today. Gotta say my SID is cursed by having only one early shiny frame below 5 minutes but at the same time the mons on the various routes I can get on that frame are really cool. I got shiny Numel, Tropius, Zangoose, Gardevoir in my party with of course pink Marshtomp. In my box I got the fresh red Absol and shiny skarmory. I can get shiny Slakoth too in petalburg woods.

Shiny Butterfree looks very different in FRLG compared to RSE, for some reason it doesn’t have pink wings in FRLG.
Interestingly they made its backsprite even more pink in Emerald than it was in RS.

Lots of glitches and neat stuff regarding RNG manip has been discovered in these games just in the last few years. It's the main reason I started playing them again, RNG manipulation seemed like black magic at first to me and I was attracted to it. I really want to have a cool and complete emerald save where I can test the limits of battle frontier too since I never collected the 7 golden symbols when I was a kid. Also to master all the Contests too.

Luckily tons of preserving and maintaining of the event ROMs are available and can be done through MGBA. Helped the guy with the Shiny Sing Spinda get that through the distribution.

I'm willing to swap any of them except for Tyranitar, but I want at least one pokemon of each gen. I'm playing on an emulator but I caught, bred and trained all of them legitimately.

Not me but I was always tempted to do a reverse engineer program that gives you the best seeds and PID for every game using your filters. Maybe there are seeds where there are multiple shiny frames close to each other with good IVs and Nature.

A lot of sprite changes from Ruby and Sapphire to Emerald appear to be due to finger number. Snorlax has 3 fingers in RS but 5 in Emerald. I already remarked on Mr. Mime, but Poliwhirl and Poliwrath each had 4 fingers in RS but 2 and 3 respectively in FRLG and Emerald.
Haunter and Raticate still have 4 fingers though, their de-fingered would have to wait until DP.

I think they were still deliberating on whether to retcon Ash's Butterfree's girlfriend as shiny or not. They settled on "no" I imagine because they didn't want to risk kids believing it was just a gender difference and accidentally K-O'ing it.

It's risky in the sense that you might have a seed and SID combination where your earliest shiny is in a 30 seconds or more frame so by instantly softresetting everytime and rushing you will never hit it.

unless you're going for a giftmon you can usually just encounter the mon, run, leave the area, come back and it'll be there again
if you're doing a giftmon, starters you can just do like 50 resets and then if you don't get anything assume there's no shiny frame near the start of your seed and reset the save file. if you're doing late game stuff you can use the battle video to advance your frames forward in your seed

Ran into a brickwall trying to manip on mGBA because unlike VBA-M it doesn't allow background inputs which means I have to use a second device to use the Eon Timer if I want to hold the select button while resetting for the sake of RNG manips. Oh well, going to stick with VBA-M for now.

You know, I never had a reason for that to stop me for anything but knowing this now that is an unfortunate feature to be missing from mGBA. A legit reason to stick with VBA-M over mGBA for those that will effect right there. Thanks for the info.

I think for the international versions the functionality is present in the files but doesn't work without hacking but with all of the custom e-reader stuff out there now it seems many people have got these working on the international games with full functionality. A fun rabbit hole to get into.

Best try and get those Trainer Hill battles ready.

Wow I got my shit rocked by Tell and Pat in Ruby. I didn't remember the pattern inside the gym changed from emerald. I managed to complete my team with Shiny Duskull, the whole team is all level 33-34 except for Swampert at level 36 but Solrock and Lunatone at 42 are too strong to take on right now. I think I'll take a detour to Pacifidlog Town training against all the swimmers and people I find while traveling to get some more levels.

I'd say you don't need perfect IVS Mon but at least good IVs and nature, 30-31 in the important stats and 25+ on the others. What you really need is to develop a strategy. Going in with 3 adv OU sweepers might work in the beginnin g but its easy to get fucked. Also mons with 4x weaknesses can be a liability.

You can get by with something like 25/31/23/x/22/31, make sure your speed and attacking stat are 31. Get a good Swampert and Metagross.

Completed the League! Tomorrow I'll start playing Fire Red. I'll leave the ruby save hanging like this even if I still have lot of content to complete. The main goal for me is having everything on Emerald. I had a good time replaying my first ever Pokémon game and I forgot lots of stuff in it with time.

i love gen3 doing a living dex finished colo in december except for ho oh/ celebi, currently at like just under 200 in emerald, been playing a modded version tho it just adds day/night cycle and following mon. i made a small patch to remove the interview from gabby and ty kinda cheating but the quiz is annoying, might also work on removing the nav calls too idk. i did make a patch to get the ruby/.sapphire mon in the correct routes at night time but havent used that in my lviing dex because it feels too much like cheating idk tho i might its only zangoose and surskit i cant get atm.. put it on a cart too with working rtc its comfy

cool thing i found a couple months ago is there is a patch to enable it in the usa game, the code exists but its just unreachable in normal game play. requirements are the same so not cheating really.. i have the patch burnt to a disc havent got it yet because i need to do the battle mountain or whatever its called https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/9133/

I watched some videos and discovered stuff I didn't even know about emerald. Basically some of these e-reader cards unlocked new trainers for the Trainer Hill in the Emerald JP version, but in the International version these trainers were already included in the base version. Same thing for Fire red (some of these were the famous trainers with shiny pokémons in their team like Espeon or Meowth).

I've got an early frame shiny, 1181 +/- a few with synchronize. 30 seconds is easy to hit as long as you save and have a sweet scent user in your first or even second party slot. Rip anyway with a frame earlier than 900 for a shiny though.

They are Enigma in gen 3 too
You can have only one kind of e-reader berry at time, if you put another e-reader berry, the berry will turn into that one, if you manage to remove the e-reader effects (no idea if it's possible) it will turn into Enigma
