Many “every”/“multiple” type pokemon and moves are normal.
Tri-Attack, Eevee, Kecleon, Arceus, Silvally, Terapagos, etc.
And most normal types have extremely wide movepools. It’s extremely common for normal types to have 14+ coverage moves.

Better idea:

Normal types getting 1.8x STAB naturally would be extremely broken.

the only issue with normal, like any other type, is when a pokemon isn't able to use it properly. that's not a problem of the type, that's a problem of the pokemon
snorlax is/was good because it was defense and able to switch in with a lot of things, maushold is/was good because it had a unique mechanic and it being normal type (strong damage but nothing being weak to said damage) balanced it out

Snorlax currently is the exact opposite of “using the normal type effectively”.
It and Chansey/Blissey were using the normal type effectively back in the day, but only because back then, their stats were some of the highest in the game.
And Close Combat didn’t exist and wasn’t given out like candy on Halloween.
And the number of Ghost and Steel types was way lower.
