>>58915155It really is different this time, as someone who has also heard it said every console jump.
The DS and 3DS were consoles many kids got by default, if for no other reason than to make kids be quiet on drives. Maybe the odd PSP instead, but, these things had the sales they did for a reason.
The Switch COULD have been risky, it was more expensive, and is dubious as a handheld, but the Switch was reasonably priced, at a much better time economically. It was also something a lot more normies had passing interest in, mostly because of Breath of the Wild and Oddesy, that kids more incidentally benefitted from.
The Switch 2 still doesn't really have anything with that same mass appeal. Mario Kart isn't normie food, nobody but aging millennials gives a shit about Air Riders, Bananza isn't Oddesy, and Zelda still runs just fine on the Switch 1. People are still cagey about it, and the economy is super fucked, with a decent liklihood of it getting even worse by year's end, when people start thinking about Christmas.
If the economy miraculously recovers, maybe, but the liklihood of that only keeps dropping as more and more is pumped into the ai bubble, nothing is done about unemployment, ect. People are suffering, and suffering people do not buy their children 500+ dollar Christmas presents. They MIGHT buy their children a 2, or even 300 dollar present, keep up that layer of denial that things are fine when they're not, but not 500.
Again, this isn't really an issue of Pokemon's pricing itself. If it was 80 on the switch 1, it would be absolutely fine, people would do that. But it isn't on the switch 1.
