I have hunted every single pokemon that can mega evolve as shiny alpha and I have almost 25 full boxes of other shinies so this is from personal experience.
One of the many instances It happened, I remember this one because it was the last: I was hunting shiny alpha eevees, managed to get a hyperspace where I could teleport out and in and respawn a group of 6 eevees, and I had a shiny normal lvl 2, alpha power lvl 3 donut. My method was turn on the game, teleport until I got a shiny alpha, see it if was female, then reset if it wasn't, catch if it was, wait for the respawn and continue. I always got a shiny alpha (or more, and regular shinies) in the group consistently after 15 minutes of spamming A. After catching 4 shiny female alphas, it basically stopped working. I spent one hour doing the exact same thing I was doing before, without spawning a single shiny. Tried again the next day for a couple of hours, no shinies. It seemed statistically impossible.I tried everything, fast traveling, physically moving out and despawning the group, KOing the whole group and waiting their respawn multiple times, setting up the save in various places, I have no idea what triggers it but I definitely think there's some sort of bug
