>>58934000Two main things come to mind, region-wise. Honestly I think a lot of these things would be solved with a full on revisit 10 years after the events of Red/Blue, or something like that. Maybe something in between the events of Red/Blue and Gold/Silver. A lot of it has to do with the fact that Kanto games were designed to be completed after Cerulean Cave with no other post-game (without Stadium).
>There are no main attractions post-E4 for any of the citiesOther than maybe the Game Corner it felt that there was no long standing thing to do in mainland Kanto in FireRed/LeafGreen. Everything post-game was sent over to Sevii with the exception of post-game rematches. Have a story on the formation of the Trainer House in Viridian City, have the guy in Vermillion City finish whatever construction project he was doing and have it be something meaningful to the trainer, have the Fighting Dojo in Saffron host rematches again, turn the Game Corner into some multiplayer minigame hub where you can use your Pokemon akin to Stadium 2/Dodrio Berry picking, maybe throw in some newer things like combing the beach on Cinnabar Island for Bottle Caps (goes into my next point). LGPE's postgame just acted as a onetime victory lap around the region to find the species Master trainers.
>The abstractions of the world map are running thin in remakesThere's no volcano on Cinnabar island until there randomly is, Pallet Town is like 2 houses and a lab which is really awkward for new storylines like LGPE's, Saffron City has never been depicted with a railway, Cycling Road was a landmass in LGPE which made the SS Anne locked into a lake for some reason, wtf is route 12 and 13, what the actual fuck is route 7, etc
There are so many opportunities to expand these routes and give them a sense of purpose as opposed to being esoteric abstractions of a certain thing. Is Route 7 a large park in between two large cities? Is the Underground Path a place where a lot of nasty people hang out?
