GKC is down to publisher's choice. Nintendo likely won't cheap out on one their flagship titles (they're unironically for the third party and cheapo fuck studios to still pretend to care about Switch 2) by making it a GKC.

Nintendo only produces 2 sizes of card for switch 2 when the switch had a few different options, so if your game is small its not worth paying their price for the big card and they pay to produce the tiny ones instead
basically every third party game or port is a key card because its not worth it to the publisher to pay nintendo for the giant carts for every game

Probably because of all the players involved, isn't this licensed from Gamefreak and Pokemon Company, to Bandai Namco, and handed to the developers of Dragon Quest Builders?

Probably needs to be a game key card to ensure the profit margins are correct.

Yes, and it's shocking Nintendo didn't foresee this being an issue. Publishers only tolerate discs because they're cheap to print. Sd express is not. I'm glad they at least presented the option for the GKC, but two SKUs is not nearly enough considering the console was already delayed by a year and a half.

The entire supply chain for anything related to technology is a fucking nightmare, the only thing I'm not surprised by is them admitting they're not going to jack up the price of the Switch 2 because they actually have a reasonable source for the parts currently.

Stuff like this is why I love Nintendo games. They always have these innovative ideas about games that sound like something your friends say when you're sitting around getting stoned, but then they actually turn around and make the idea a reality. Years down the line a game like Pokopia where you make habitats that cause creatures to show up is going to inspire more games, likely in the indie space, and the medium evolves further.
