You are correct about Yamask though that example is a bit weird since its the human's spirit that transforms which is different from the physical body.
the Kadabra thing didn't happen, it's just a story in-universe. I don't blame you for thinking that because the dex doesn't clarify that at all. However, there was official (book released (in Japanese only) around the time Pokemon came out that went into detail about background Pokemon lore, and it expands on Kababra's dex saying that there was a tv show or book about a boy transforming into a Kadabra. It's also the same source of the Pokemon shrinking thing long before PLA.
