The core idea of a region with a bad guy champion you need to take down sounds fun
You don't even need to go with edgy shit like the champion being a dictator or something, even if the guy is just a charismatic leader (Like Ghetsis or Lysander) that has the region under his thumb thanks to his battle prowess and charisma it would work.
Bonus points if the villainous team of the region are freedom fighters/people opposing the champion.
