RBY is the best way, because it's the only way that even somewhat captures the grungy, industrial, haphazard spirit of irl Kanto.
Everything else is stupidly romantic. Like pretending Paris is all of France, and that Paris is not a city where you will be mugged.

This. Coming from Ruby/Sapphire, they're an extreme disappointment. Even the UI became super bland and basic.
Terrible remakes, terrible games. The definitive KANTOOOO experience is in HG/SS.

I deeply respect the original RGBY, but FRLG is objectively the best Kanto game. It has way more content, and seven additional islands (which happen to be some of the coolest locations in Pokemon).

how? In RSE you have way more variety including rain and ash clouds. It is a way more interesting region Kanto is all caves and paths. RSE has a volcano, a mystic mountain, a overgrown stormy route, underwater caves, the desert area, etc
