Because the game isn't streamlined for 3D era zoomers and alphas.
They genuinely can't handle the absence of speedup, absence of EXP All, and other forms of QoL that make beating the game faster.

Nobody has played these games at one time speed who isn't profoundly autistic in 20 years.
Gamefreak themselves acknowledged the games were slow with the emulator speedup in Pokémon Stadium.

To be fair early game Kanto is kind of a slog, especially in FRLG (see >>58983659).
It starts picking up the pace after you beat Brock.

So going back 6 generations you are just playing the same games you were playing but with 100 qol restrictions
