What, insanely and incomprehensibly more profitable than it ever was at any stage in time since Pokéamania died? As always, they chose design briefs to specifically detail the starters they want to use in any particular region (and if you'd been paying attention, they made a fox and 2 cat starters first, because they're more popular in Japan than dogs are). They want to make the shillmon the fire type this time out, so they picked an animal guaranteed to land with the vast majority of the core audience they seek - kids and casuals (unlike Gen 6 where the theme of the water starter was its selling point in the west as shillmon and they pushed it over the fox, because Japanese boys ALSO love frogs and ninjas). Just because you're upset with the franchise not caring about you does not mean it's in any bad shape. In case you missed it, they already made another filthy fucking fortune on greyscale pikachu 30th anniversary plushies that scalpers are making a LARGER filthy fucking fortune off right this minute.

I have always seen decidueye ranking high especially for alola region polls.
