Yellow also changed around some teams and Pokémon distribution. I think at least some of those changes could have been brought into FRLG. Combining the Pokémon distribution of both RG, Japanese B, and Y could have given players more options, and adding elements from the Yellow teams could have made for interesting bosses.
More egregiously, they ignore everything gens 2 and 3 added because they wanted to be faithful to the originals. Like
