It's rarely beneficial to the pokemon that actually have it, and is occasionally seen as just a downside. It needs something, Fairy needs a nerf anyways, and there's even threads of it making sense.

Fairy is not a good type. It doesn't interact with too much of the type chart, has strong resistances and weak weaknesses. It was pretty blatantly a poorly thought out bandaid type to fix the meta, with little consideration to what the type actually does, which while technically partially successful, has had disastrous consequences at large. We're past the point of removing it entirely, so it just needs to be adjusted to be better. And, if it can be used to help struggling types like Psychic and Ice, all the better, as it should have been anyways.
