Farfetch’d is just based on a Japanese idiom, Pidove is designed around the idea that pigeon and the English loanword heart and pronounced the same in Japanese, Jynx’s ice typing in tandem with its design is a reference to the Japanese localization of an older (western) film, Exeggutor is a “dragon tree”, Flygon is an antlion (called sand dragon in JP), etc.
The English word “rock” (as in, stone,) has been used in place of the Japanese word in Pokemon before, and the music itself is just called rock over there too. It’s fairly likely we’ll get a rock music-based rock Pokemon at some point, since the series loves its dumb puns.
