Fanfictions have endings?
More seriously I don't have an answer to this, most of the ones I get into just don't have endings. So of the recent books I've read it'd have to be Henry James' the American. One part Gothic, one part romance, one part realism, and too early to be modernist. The novel just sorts of ends anticlimatically, that would have been fine if it was more realistic, but the Gothic third act really clashes with it. It made the protagonist kind of a wet blanket as well, and not in a tortured, educated, fun, hypocritical way like Newman Archer from the Age of Innocence.
More more seriously, I hate the ending to everything I've written.

There was this Kalos fic that had the MC use a fleet of flying battleships that AZ apparently made and hid under Kalos. It was one of the first fanfics I ever read but all I remember was being confused and wondering if all fanfics threw shit at the wall like this.
Story was called Kalos : A Senseless Self Insert Story

Of the few I’ve read that have endings, one where the MC fucking loses the League off-screen and has an entirely unsatisfactory discussion with Oak about his isekai grandfather. And then it ends right when it dives into more interesting stuff.

"I Became A Vulpix's" ending shot my dog and shat in my breakfast cereal. Of all the works on heaven and earth that were completed, it should not have been that one. Rushed, unsatisfactory, raises more questions than it answers, and is the shit cherry on top of an already shit sundae.
I've since been inspired to try writing my own attempt at it, but it's largely in the concept stage at the moment.

I'm within a few chapters now of introducing a character that I'm pretty confident will be my most controversial one, that I discussed on here a couple years back before I started writing proper. The general vibe I got on responses was that if executed well she could be pretty great, but there's a high chance of her being perceived as a Sue, so I'm gonna have to wait and see what people think of her.

I find it funny how IMO, PoPT, and now mean all have a tomboyish female character who's strong but causes conflict with the MC. Although Clair isn't the short-haired type of tomboy and is a bit of an oujou as well.

Because she has protagonist energy, duh. Readers love that shit. Besides a male reader base is more likely to forgive a female character being stupid than a male one and vice versa. Although that's based entirely off of my inferences since I haven't read PoPT past chapter 6. I'll get around to it after IMO, promise. Although typically if you son't call attention to characters being stupid some readers won't notice.
She'd have to be Mary-sioux frm youki senkai tier to be hated, i.e getting her allies killed for the sake of her personal justice.

I wonder how badly she's going to get her ass kicked to start this.

Would be funny to see her smacking around low level Pokemon with ease, taking injuries but having them healed quickly by a healing Pokemon. Only for the time she needs help she doesn't have her healer. Or fuck, maybe she loses her healer all together. I could see Kuzey telling her not to in without her healer and this fighter girl goes in to just to prove him wrong...

I had multiple readers say that Ian had "protagonist energy" during the Sinclair fight and now I'm going to have to actually look up what they mean by it, cuz I assume it's more than just "this is the protagonist doing stuff." I like to think I at least made Ian earn this narrative "protagonist energy" after all of the shit he's been through.

And "protagonist energy" is just main character energy? Lame. I find I need to humble my protags before they can become the heroes they were meant to be, but maybe I should have them start with that energy, lose it, then get it back. Would probably have stopped the "humiliation ritual" stigma around PoPT. Who am I kidding, that will never be shaken

One thing that fanfics usually never get right is the Pokémon synergy within society. Trainers only use their Pokémon for battles, when they're supposed to be all over the world helping others with their work or just being actual friends with humans. It's hard to go about that stuff on text.
It's easy to show it on animation because it happens in the background. You cannot be describing everything on the background as the focus characters are doing thing. It's just not how text works.
It's not like official works are good with that either too. That there has to be a dedicated SoL short like that to show it happening speaks volumes.

Although I remember talking about a story idea I scrapped a while back, and it started with some shit happening to the protag and I remember one anon dropped: "And I thought Pofag was into humiliation but this is crazy" or something to that effect. I think it must be my incessant need to make my protags earn it so they're humble before they get all of "the power."

NTA you're replying to, but writing scenes with 5+ named characters in them is hard, adding Pokemon to scenes like that, while not impossible, compounds the difficulty. Although I will say I 100% agree that Pokemon would be involved in a household/family like >>59047744 says. But it's like nicknames for Pokemon in fanfics, they obviously would be a thing (we don't call dogs "Dog" or "Pomeranian"), but the writing medium makes it nigh impossible to do well if you're going to have a large cast of characters.

This is something I need to get better at. Especially if it's scenes just between two characters. I usually get caught up in making the dialogue snappy and flow well to focus on anything else.

I'm hoping it'll make more sense once you meet her, but it's less an overinflated ego that makes her abrasive like this, and more that she has a deeply ingrained sense of responsibility, that this is just the only way to do things that she's comfortable with.

This is something I'm constantly trying to double-check on myself so I can keep the atmosphere right. When people are working I try to have Pokemon doing their jobs with them, and they have a big space in decoration and aesthetics the way animals do in the real world.

If a regular human can kick a Happiny’s ass it’s fine, what I actually don’t like is the main trainer regularly stealing the spotlight from the cool monsters in the cool monster fighting franchise. On one hand, it's established that Cyrus' goal was to use the manifestation of Space and/or Time to reshape the universe, and shit doesn't really happened to the Distortion World when you captured/defeat Giratina. On the other hand, it's well known that Pokémon (especially captive ones) often limits themselves to prevent collateral damage to their environment.

Ultimately, it depends on you and how you wanted to tell your story.

This is basically the focus of the fic I'm writing. Protagonist hates pokemon battles but enjoys cooking. Takes a holiday from work to travel Paldea and ends up talking to a bunch of people with different jobs/relationships with their pokemon from the usual trainer ones. I'm committing to the bit so hard that the only fight scenes I've written so far are humans fighting pokemon.

Not a Fanfic, but the ending of the movie was such a fucking complete 180 in tone that it pissed me the fuck off. It's a comedy, and I can respect the 'fuck it' attitude. But it was a dramatic comedy that ended with a hyper cartoony gag that completely abandoned any form of possible closure on the story.

AO3 is kind of alien to me, but I'll use it if it will get me readers.

How would you do a character with toonforce (pokemon or human) in the Pokémon world? The anime has it's gags but they're almost never taken seriously and don't tend to show up in serious situations. How might one achieve such a power?

Sounds like a fun one for a comedy. I had a vaguely similar idea once where a meek, klutzy, but well-meaning isekaijin SI comes to the Pokemon world, and seems to be extremely lucky. He's always at exactly the right place and time to avoid being harmed or stop something bad from happening, and as he dripfeeds more and more details about himself to his new friends, the reader starts catching on that he's literally Superman

Dopamine from reader interaction always helps overcome that a bit. What really does it for me is I'll start really thinking on the (hopefully) epic moments I haven't gotten to yet, the devastating revelations and the euphoric triumphs. New chapter of In Mine Own (kinda-sorta!) is up!

If you're simply asking about using Poke Balls in an ancient setting, I'd say as long as you use Tumblestones and Apricorns for them, only the most anal autists would gripe.
