What's challenging about it? Pokemon is pretty easy but XY is brain dead even for pokemon standards. You can easily have a broken team by the 1st gym

Red and Blue are challenging because of the terrible bugs and early combat system. Shit like wrap + poison can wreck your team while you watch helplessly.

Hoenn had plenty of challenging content in battle tower and later the coveted battle island that platinum copies.

Gen 5 has some of the best postgame content, especially in BW 2 where trainers after the E four had some well-composed teams.

XY was trash and has zero challenge. Only goes down hill from there. Gen 7? One necrozma fight if you bothered to by the objectively worse second version of the game. Gen 8? Welcome to mandatory exp share and the most handholding since the teachy TV. Honestly I don't know who is still buying and playing these games for the gameplay
